Advancing Digital Health for Healthy Ageing
Idea is ORGANIZING the SmartBear Final Event on February 24-28 February 2024, in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal.
Digital innovation is reshaping the future of ageing in Europe, with a strong emphasis on person-centered healthcare and well-being. Initiatives like Madeira Digital Health and Wellbeing are leveraging technology to enhance autonomy, inclusion, and quality of life for older adults. The Smart Bear project, funded by the Horizon 2020 programme, is a key example of this transformation, integrating health monitoring technologies, smart devices, and data-driven insights to provide personalised support. With 5,000 participants across five European countries, including Portugal’s Madeira region—recognised as a leader in digital health—Smart Bear is validating solutions in diverse social and regional contexts.
In recognition of Madeira’s pioneering role, the European Commission has selected it to host the Smart Bear final event from 24 to 28 February 2025. Organised by the Institute for Development and Technological Innovation (IDEA), the event will bring together key stakeholders to discuss project outcomes and the future of digital health in Europe. A public session on 28 February will highlight the project's impact, particularly in Portugal, and reinforce strategic partnerships for the sustainability of these innovations. High-level officials, including the President of Madeira and Portugal’s Minister of Health, will attend, underscoring the commitment to policies that promote healthier and more dignified ageing.
